Daegaya History Theme Park (대가야 역사테마관광지)

Daegaya History Theme Park is located in what was the center of the Daegaya Kingdom. The park offers various areas to learn about not only the history of the area but also the current culture and the future of Goryeong. In particular, visitors can enjoy various items produced during the Daegaya era such as pottery, ironworks, and gayageum (traditional Korean string instrument), as well as visit the park's 4D theater and walk along the forest exploration trail.

Ganggyeong Oknyeobong Park (강경 옥녀봉)

Oknyeobong Peak is one of the eight scenic views of Nonsan and offers a great overview of the Geumgang River as it flows through the Ganggyeong district. Continuing out into the distance, views of Nonsan and Iksan can be seen, bringing to mind a traditional painting of a mountain and river. The scenery is so beautiful that there is a myth of mountain gods coming down to play and bathe during the full moon.

The signal-fire tower at the peak was built to receieve signals from the tower on Gwangduwonsan Mountain in Iksan, and passes the message along to Noseong signal-fire tower. The park is also in the area of the nation's earliest Baptist church, making it famous for people on a pilgrimage to sacred places.

Pohang Canal (포항운하)

Pohang Canal, completed in January 2014, cuts between Pohang's Songdo-dong and Jungdo 1-dong, connecting the waters under Dongbindaegyo Bridge with Hyeongsangang River to the south. The canal has a total length of 1.3km, adding on to the 8~10 km long seafaring road of Pohang. The canal is a restoration of an old water path, and the citizens have welcomed the eco-friendly construction as a community park. Many people enjoy walking along the canal or the romantic experience of riding on a cruise ship through the canal.

Daegu Modern History Streets (Tour of Modern Streets) (대구 근대골목(근대로의 여행))

Daegu Modern History Streets is an experiential tour that brings the participants across Daegu’s alleyways and living history. During the Korean War, Daegu was much less damaged than other regions. Because of that, the city retains the changes in lifestyles before and after the war relatively well.
There are 13 courses in total, run by regional self-governance groups in Daegu, defined according to different themes and areas. The most popular among them is Course 2, the Modern Cultural Street, which takes visitors on a tour of major sites associated with Daegu’s modernity. Follow the retro aesthetics and the history of Daegu and Korea along places like Kyesan Catholic Church, Jeil Church, old houses, and the former Chinese Elementary School.
Note that multilingual tours are offered to international visitors in English, Japanese, and Chinese, in regular tours (14:00 every Saturday) and on-demand tours (available for groups of more than 5). Reservations are offered on the official website.

Gaudo Island (가우도)

Gaudo Island is the only populated island of the eight islands in Gangjinman Bay. The name comes from its appearance in relation to Boeunsan Mountain in Ganjin-eup, which looks like a cow’s head. The whole island resembles a cow’s meonge (curved stick around cow’s neck used to drag farming tool) so the island became to be called Gaudo Island (Ga: Meonge in Chinese characters).

From Gaudo Island, Gangjinman Bay and the uninhabited islands can be seen in all directions. The coastal scenery is stunning and varied natural tourism resources grow here such as the silver magnolia, cypress colony, and Japanese black pines. Visitors can walk to the island from the mainland via a suspension bridge. When arriving to the island, a 2.5-kilometer long ecological exploring road along the mountain and coast is available. Also, fishing park which has various kinds of fishes is located in the spot where visitors can overlook at beautiful scenery of Gangjinman Bay. At the top of the island, visitors can enjoy a zip track which is an eco-friendly leisure facility, starting from the 25-meter Cheongja Tower.

Wondae-ri Birch Forest (Whispering Birch Forest) (원대리 자작나무 숲(속삭이는 자작나무 숲))

Wondae-ri Birch Forest near Inje-eup is an exemplar of natural eco-tourism, established by planting 690,000 birch trees across 138 hectares from 1974 to 1995. Today, 25 hectares of this expansive area serve as a forest experience center tailored for children. Two main trails are available: the Wonjeong Forest Trail, with an 80-minute walking time, and the shorter Wondae Forest Trail, taking about an hour to traverse. The trails lead hikers through a dense forest of birch trees, some over two decades old, whose stark white trunks reach skyward, creating an ethereal atmosphere. This forest not only offers a journey through its unique ecosystem but also provides aesthetic pleasure and educational opportunities, securing its status as a distinguished eco-tourism site in Inje-gun.
In winter, the snow-blanketed landscape alongside the stark white birches creates a picturesque tableau, making it a favored spot for photography. For families, especially those with children, the forest is a treasure trove of educational fun, with activities available at the Children’s Forest Experience Center, including Forest Classroom and Indian House, fostering a connection with nature.

Note: Some areas may close temporarily to prevent forest fires and preserve the ecosystem, so please check availability before visiting.

◎ Travel information to meet Hallyu’s charm
This location was the romantic date spot for Jin-ah (played by Son Ye-jin) and Joon-hee (played by Jung Hae-in) in the TV series "Something in the Rain." It also served as the setting for a sorrowful farewell for Crown Prince Lee Chang (played by Ju Ji-hoon) in "Kingdom 2." Both scenes, filmed in winter, highlighted the stunning beauty of the snow-covered landscape.

Having gained much attention for coffee expertise through Animok Cafe Street since the 1980s, Gangneung in Gangwon State is the first local district in Korea to host a coffee festival and support coffee artisans as well as promote development of coffee related facilities and content such as coffee museum, coffee street, coffee factory, barista academy, and more. With almost all coffee shops in the area roasting their own coffee beans, Gangneung is well-recognized as the "city of coffee."

Mungyeongsaejae Open Set (문경새재 오픈세트장)

Mungyeongsaejae Open Set has been used for a variety of historical publications, including “Taejo Wang Geon (2000),” “Dae Jo Yeong (2006),” “Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010),” “Moon Embracing the Sun (2012),” “Jeon Woo-chi (2012),” and “Masquerade (2012).” In 2008, the Goryeo Dynasty set was dismantled and redesigned into a Joseon-era set. Visitors can get a glimpse of life in the past through the replica houses and various structures throughout the open set.

Uljin Geumgang Pine Trail (울진 금강소나무 숲길)

The Pine Forest Trail on Geumgangsan Mountain in Uljin goes through a beautiful forest of lush pine trees growing tall and straight with uncommonly bright bark. These special trees are called Geumgang Pine Trees, sometimes shortened to "gangsong" ('songi' is pine in Korean). The forest has many old trees, including at 520-year-old "grandfather pine," leading to the forest being designated a protected status. Visitors who wish to walk through the pine tree tunnel and enjoy a 'forest bathing' experience must make reservations in advance.

Samrye Culture & Arts Village is an art village also referred to as "Samsamyeyemimi." Once used as a granary and an official residence during the Japanese administration, it has now become a village of art. The village consists of Design Museum, Visual Media Art Gallery, Kim Sang-rym Carpentry Shop (Wood Works), and Book Museum and offers a variety of programs during exhibition events and art festivals.
